Read More“Escape to Alcatraz” is a story that intrigues on many levels. This documentary is about passion, determination, and people who despite the challenging reality of the ’90s, found a way of life through street basketball—building their own community from the ground up and a multi generational endeavor that continues to this day.
The film’s strength lies in the real people: flesh and blood characters who prove that it is not the place or time, but the character, that determines one’s fate.
“Borz,” “Sikor,” “Glapa,” and “Łabi” are the living legends of the street basketball, as well as colorful, fascinating individuals with something truly important to say. They serve as the “guarantors” of truth in this story, resonating in every frame like the echo of a warm handshake on an asphalt court amid the tenement buildings—Alcatraz.
The project blends sport, hip hop, and the visual art—with contributions from the likes of Patrycjusz “Nullizmatyk” Kochanowski and Tomasz Maroński, acclaimed figures in the music and art worlds.
Production is handled by a team of athletes and filmmakers who know the realities of street basketball inside and out. This is not just a sports story but also a nostalgic journey into childhood memories and a tribute to the concrete courts that have shaped the entire generations across Polish cities.
